History of the Club
Milton Keynes City Cricket Club was formed in 1948 as The Co-op Dragons Cricket Club, playing mid-week games only. By 1962 there were no Bletchley Co-operative Society employees playing and the playing members bought out the assets from the Co-op and formed Old Bletchley Cricket Club. The membership of OBCC was no more than 16-17 players and the club played friendly fixtures at Manor Fields, sharing the second wicket with Simpson. Games were normally played on Saturday, Sunday and mid-week throughout the season. During the next 20 years OBCC underwent considerable expansion and development as the membership grew. This resulted in a second team, playing initially on Sunday and later also on Saturday, a third team playing limited fixtures on Sunday and a strong mid-week side. The mid-week side played in both the Wolverton and Coleman Cup competitions, eventually winning the Coleman Cup. A Youth team was also started during this period, but as there were no Youth competitions in the area, the side played in the new mid-week league, winning the third division in its third season. This large growth, combined with problems associated with a poor and shared wicket and inadequate facilities at Manor Fields, resulted in the club moving to its present ground at Woughton-on-the-Green in 1981. It initially shared the ground with two hockey clubs and tennis, soccer and rugby league clubs as part of the Milton Keynes Sports Club. In 1984, to identify more closely with the managing Sports Club, Old Bletchley Cricket Club changed its name to Milton Keynes City Cricket Club.
